What type of coffee grind do I need for each coffee maker?

The coffee grind will determine the result you get in the cup.

The types of grinding determine the exposure time of the coffee in contact with water and this will define the extraction of the coffee. Each coffee maker uses a different extraction method, which is why at Orígenes Coffee Roaster we divide the types of grinding into 6, they are extra fine, fine, medium fine, medium, medium coarse and coarse.

Below we will detail what grinding requires each type of coffee extraction method.

Espresso Maker: Fine grind, almost powder. This coffee maker in just 25-30 seconds extracts the maximum aroma, flavor, cream and intensity of the coffee. It has to be fine to get the water to come into contact with the largest possible part of the coffee in the shortest possible time, since the extraction is very fast.

Italian coffee maker : medium ground, with a grain thickness similar to beach sand. We could use fine grinding but if the degree of grinding is excessively fine, we run the risk of making the coffee very bitter. Another thing to keep in mind when using this coffee maker is not to press the coffee.

Drip coffee maker: medium grind. If we use a very finely ground coffee, the water will take too long to pass through the filter and the coffee will be very bitter.

French press or plunger coffee maker requires a type of coarse grind. In this type of coffee maker, the water must have a greater contact surface with the coffee to extract its aroma and flavor to the maximum.

At Orígenes Coffee Roaster we recommend that whenever possible, it is better to grind the coffee at the time of preparation, at the end of the note we recommend some grinders to order if you do not have one.

If not, you can also choose to order your specialty coffee already ground, in the Orígenes Coffee Roaster store you can order it ground for the type of coffee maker you need. You just have to keep in mind that to preserve its properties it is necessary to store it in an airtight container once the package is opened.
