What does it mean to roast the coffee?
Coffee roasting consists of heating the coffee beans using hot air inside a rotating drum. The objective of roasting is to ensure that it is uniform, avoiding that the beans come into contact with the hot walls of the drum inside the roaster and burn in the process. The idea is that the beans are "floating" in the air while heat is applied to them and the way to achieve this is by exposing the beans to hot air while they are rotating.
In addition, the use of hot air allows greater control over the speed of the drum, as well as the color and final acidity of the coffee.
The roasting time can vary, but in general it usually takes 15 minutes and depends on various factors, such as the type of machine used, the type of roast you want to achieve, the variety of coffee, whether it is single origin or a mixture (blend). ), and whether it is an industrial or artisanal process.
At Orígenes Coffee Roaster we have classified coffee roasting into six types of roasting that can vary depending on the master roaster and the geographical area.
